Newbes - you must show me your notes - pinch, coil, soft slab today so I can get you a grade. Also, you need to make sure that you have graded your pinch pot by FRIDAY! | Make sure you have grading blog entries for the bowls, tall project, and four working blog entries. |
Kilns will be running all week so make sure your pinch pot gets glazed before Friday or you will fail the mid-quarter !!!! Also you should have notes for pinch, coil and soft slab completed to get full credit. you must show them to me tomorrow.
This is the website we use everyday in class. On it you and your student will find all sorts of information from what we did today to class descriptions, rules, how we grade, due dates, as well as how to and demo videos.
Please take time with your student to go through all the information that's here. glaze and bisque kilns are out!!
if your project is glazed you need to write it up and get it graded. let's look at how to write a ceramics paragraph if you glaze follow the direction on the cabinets, in the notebook or ask an advanced student.
you should be finishing your soft slab by Thursday so we can start the firm slab on Friday or Monday. Make sure you are doing your clean up job or we will have an all day clean up on Friday when I get back.
the glazes are not ready yet ... today we move on to the next project - the soft slab! see the instructions on the ceramics/ how to / tab!
Just a note - if you look on SKYWARD - it might say you've dropped ceramics. This is because everyone has been moved from general ceramics into the appropriate sections - beginning and/or advanced. Not to worry. TIME TO GET CLEAN UP JOBS! We should have clean up jobs posted on the door to the glaze room. Every one must first clean up their spot and then do their job. This means we will have to start cleaning earlier. This will be your clean up job all semester. Sorry. It's pretty random, so that's the deal. IT IS PART OF OF YOUR PARTICIPATION GRADE. YES ALL CLASSES DO IT. DO NOT, I REPEAT, DO NOT PUT CLAY WATER OR CLAY DOWN THE DRAIN! WASH ALL THINGS, TOOLS, HANDS, ANYTHING, FIRST IN A BUCKET, THE BIG BUCKETS IF IT'S GOT A LOT OF CLAY ON IT, THEN THE BUCKET IN THE SINK. TOOLS, BATS, SPONGES, DO NOT, I REPEAT DO NOT NEED TO BE PUT UNDER RUNNING WATER. The bisque kilns are done! Find your project, wash it, put it in yr. locker - now!
Your bisqueware will look like this. look on the shelf with your period # on it. make absolutely certain that your project is bisqued - does it ring? or does it melt when you get it wet? Does it have your name on the base (if not we have a kiln marker - DO NOT TRY AND CARVE INTO BISQUE-WARE WITH A TOOL. YOU WILL BREAK THE TOOL!) |
