check your progress scale - what have you gotten done?

11/30/2017

List on your weekly sheet the projects you've finished, the ones in process, and the one(s) that you just started.

Unless I've miss-counted there are about 15 days of wet clay - some of these are Fridays or days that will have assemblies. Make sure you are on the wheel making your projects TODAY and EVERYDAY -- :)

Intermediate and Advance - you need to have a gallery up by Friday of what you have gotten done already.

Why is how thing dry important?

11/29/2017

describe how a cup should dry?

what is the rule of thumb for when you put something in a bag and when you don't?

- you are still working on it
- you just added clay

Last day of wet clay is the day before Christmas break *

11/28/2017

Over this week we need to - get your projects finished and do the cup. Soon we will demo the planter, then the lidded project.

have you completed your franken-pot? It's due NOW!

The term ends on Jan 12, so we have only a week and a half after break to finish. On those days we will be glazing, cleaning and doing presentations.
* actually you can throw one last day on Jan 2, and foot on Jan 3, but the last bisque will be Weds. Jan 3rd.

Time to look at more complicated constructions - opening twice and making lids.
Check the videos and start planning.
IF you are thinking about holiday gifts - watch the calendar we have three  weeks to Winter Break. :)

making a cup

11/27/2017

A cup takes  2 Days - Day one - make the cylinder
make sure you make a tall cylinder

day 2 - first pull the handle, foot the cup, and then attach the handle.

How are you doing? Use the scale to see where you are making progress.

11/16/2017

I know the steps I am trying to master -   rate yourself at  the following steps -   4 mastery, 3 good, 2 learning 1 need help

CENTERING         4, 3, 2, 1

OPENING               4, 3, 2, 1

making a BASE     4, 3, 2, 1

pulling the WALL 4, 3, 2, 1

making a FORM    4, 3, 2, 1

trimming and compressing  the LIP 4, 3, 2, 1

trimming the FOOT      4, 3, 2, 1

remember we are going to conference schedule starting on Friday.
Turn in your tool kit notes today.
no class notes during special schedual.

pop quiz!

11/15/2017

what are the 8 steps of throwing?

you have 3 1/2 minutes to list them!

rubric for the vase

11/14/2017

-I can create a ceramic vase using the choking technique and a rib tool that  has a ‘vase’ shape of uniform thickness  - between 1/4” and 1/8” -   at least 4” tall and 3” wide. the lip and base should be much narrower than the shoulder.

-trim the foot during the throwing process so that it can be left un-footed if necessary.

-
proportion of ⅓ at the neck to ⅔ at the foot, with three different circumferences of lip, shoulder and base. it will have a compressed lip

-- glaze enhances the project
- project is unified and well thought out and executed.

making a vase

11/13/2017

What are the secrets to making a vase -- or any tall project?

-make a small base

- choke and never let the top get wide

 - shape after you have made a tall cylinder!!

Again, check your due dates and the calendar -- time is moving quick and there are many disruptions coming up.

BUT - YOU CAN DO IT if you BELIEVE in yourself!!

reality check...

11/9/2017

How much time is left in the semester?

next week -- reg. almost
Nov  20 - disrupted  --- so maybe 1 & 1/2
then 4 1/2 weeks till winter break
then 1 and 1/2 weeks until the end -- BUT the last week is clean up and presentations.
End of wet clay will be the Thursday we return from Break
SO plan on having ALL your projects MADE before winter break!!!

SO Plan ahead-- MAKE ART NOW
