Questions for NOW

4/28/2017

Questions for the last fourth of ceramics
-What is the most difficult thing about ceramics?
What is the easiest?
When am I most happy in class?
What is my team's job?
What is one extra  thing you could do to make the room nicer to be in?

opening twice - planters and lids

4/26/2017

opening twice - again - envision what you want the final project to look like as you work. Keep the clay moving up - not out.

With a planter make sure the inside is big and the tray in proportion. make sure there is enough base.

Looking forward

Thinking about progress - finish these sentences. extra points if it's done on Wednesday when I get back.:)

4/25/2017

Upon reflection - one major change in how I approach the wheel now, in this last month, is -

If I were to give advice to a new student on the wheel MY ONE MAIN TIP is  -

I am most proud so far of
-    (name the project and when you made it.)

Progress Check...

4/24/2017

My Franken pot is______________ (tell me where it is)

I have completed all my projects from first quarter (let me know) or I still have to _______________ for the following projects.

I have finished ___________________(please list) projects for second quarter.

I have started _________________(please list)  projects for second quarter.

I have ____ yellow sheets from second quarter that have been graded and handed back.

How Should I Clean Up After I Throw on the Wheel?

4/21/2017

1 - put clay back in mixer
2- all other clay scraps in bucket by mixer
3 - clean area while you are still sitting with your small bucket - get more water if you need.
4 - small bucket water goes in bucket by back door - it's full of clay - make sure you have no tools in your bucket.
5 clean ring at table in 5 gal. bucket of water with your sponges. Make sure tools are cleaned there as well.
6- clean your area with a sponge including the area under the ring as well as the board between them. also clean your chair.
7- check the floor for tools or scraps of clay.

NOW and only now wash your hands.

where is your Frankenpot?

4/20/2017

on your yellow sheet --

1. where is your Franken-pot? Write it down.

2. Have you finished all your projects that were due in first quarter?  If not you will be getting zeros...
GET IN YOUR WORK NOW.

3. Check the scales and rubrics -- again your wheel projects need to be larger than 2" tall!!!!

making a cup -- a two day deliberate process

4/19/2017

when you make a cup ---

Day one make the cylinder - make sure the base is narrow and lightweight -- it gets heavier when you add liquids.

Day two -- pull the handle first -- foot it second -- then attach the handle.

If you foot the cup first and then make the handle it will not have time to 'set up' and will be difficult to put on correctly.

see demo  --

what is choking?

4/18/2017

secrets of making a taller cylinder for a cup or vase --

Start with and keep a small but distinct base

choke between pulls to get a tall cylinder

Do NOT let it get wide - You CANNOT make something narrow again once it's gotten wide -- BUT you can make something wide later....  lets watch the demos

remember if you make a cup, make the cylinder day one, pull the handle day two, foot then attach the handle. Handles tomorrow. :)

we are back
