Over this week we need to -

Last day before a four day break

11/25/2015

Students -please make sure you have covered your projects.

job list here.

It is extremely important that the mixer is off and gets closed and covered and clay is left open.
Make sure the glazes are also covered, no brushes or whisks left in the water and brushes are upright.
Also make sure all wheels are turned off - you should not hear them.

also please note small kiln is not working. Repair people will be in next week. but it will slow down the process for now. For anyone expecting something glaze for the holiday - I share your grief - but it will get shiny soon.

what are the five basic skills of wheel throwing

11/18/2015

yesterday we looked at the scale and rubric for a cylinder
what are the five basic skills that were focused on?

-making a centered project with uniform walls
-making a specific shape
- footing and lip - beginning and ending a form
-glazing - how are you applying glaze and using color
-project integrity - how the form, surface, edge and color relate to create one unified project

NOTE - Your Frankenpot needs to be physically turned in so it can be on display in the wild cat court - and be eligible for a prize. Please make sure when you get it graded you turn it in with your names.

looking at a scale

11/17/2015

the scale and rubrics focus on five main skills/ideas/techniques in each project.

Lessons tend to focus on skills and techniques - what you do with these skills and your ideas is what makes a project.

check out this scale for a cylinder
as well as the rubric

take six minutes to talk with your team - name the five basic skills then talk about why they are different and why they are the same.

Scale generally talk about how these skills/ideas/techniques work to make an actual project. Should be used by a student while the project is in process while the student is considering what he/she could do to make the project better.

Rubrics  focus on how well the project demonstrates mastery of the learning targets - the skills - with in the context of a finished project. it is a way to grade a finished project. It will focus on the same basic skills in the scale.

one more time --- I can name the seven steps of throwing

11/16/2015

sitting
centering
opening,
making a base
pulling the wall
shaping the wall
compressing the lip and trimming the base

where should I be in the semester

11/13/2015

Please make sure you are using your progress scale - Make sure your Franken-pot is on it.

Beginners - you should have finished your bowls in wet clay and be working on your cup or vase.

Intermediate - your two bowls should be noticeably better than your first ones, you should be done with tall - remember to choke.

Advanced - Choice 4, hand and wheel and lidded. Note there are three ways to make a lid. See Ms. H.

reviewing handles...

11/12/2015

Describe the process of making a handled project
day one ----
day two -----
after you attach the handle what do you do?

Making an attaching a handle to a project

11/10/2015

I know I need bagged clay to pull a handle
I know I need to make the handle before I foot the project
I know  I need to leave the handle out for 10 minutes while I foot and before I attach it.
I know I need to put the project in a bag overnight since I've attached a new piece of clay so the handle doesn't fall off.
