if glaze is in a little bucket - it's expensive - use it for details.

i.e. how do we keep clay from going down the drain?

Why is the bucket in the glaze room different than the other ones?

all projects start as cylinders.

after today's demo write on your learning log what has to be done with the rib tool to make a cylinder into a bowl.

Also note - all projects that are due by the end of the quarter need to be on the bisque shelf by Friday or they won't be done in time

thoughts about glazing ...

glazes can be either transparent, translucent or opaque

they can be shiney or matt

sometimes particles float in the glaze layer to give a sense of depth.

there is a layer between the clay and glaze where the two are actually mixed.

sometimes the clay body and glaze shrink at different rates and cause 'crazing' - tiny cracks.

rule of thumb - complex shape / simple glaze
simple shape / complex glaze
