What are the ART ELEMETS?

1/31/2017

follow this link for the definitions -- you need to write down the art elements
line
value
shape
form
space
color
texture

If you have a website you need to have a 'vocab' page that has the definitions as well as illustrations -- should be ceramic arts.

EMMA

onward to the group coil project

1/31/2017

On your weekly tool kit/notes - list who is on your team and who your are making your project for.  Then you need to start it.

see this link for pictures

FIRST --

make sure your pink sheet is complete for your pinch pot. You must have me initial it before your project goes on the bisque shelf. if it goes into the bisque next week it will be near enough to on time. Int/Adv - make sure your work blog shows projects started, on bisque and has information on size, skills, ect.

NEXT --- Each member of your team needs to fill out a pink sheet with the plan for the project - who is for and what will the purpose be - be thoughtful and creative - who could use a little something???

show me the sheet today  by the end of the class. If you are done with your pinch project then you can start on the group coil. Or you can jump to the group coil and put finishing touches on your pinch pot later in the week, both must be on the bisque shelf no latter than the end of class Friday.

after the group coil beginners will be doing an individual coil project that one should be finished no later than next Monday.

Group Coil Pots start Tomorrow (Tuesday)

1/30/2017

today - before you finish your pinch pots and other assignments - at the beginning of class hold a meeting with your group and come up with ideas for what your group project will be - who is it for and what purpose will it serve.

EX. last  semester some one made a coil pot of Alisha to put straws in at the coffee cart.
one group made a project decorated with hands for the ASL teacher.
One group made a project for a co-worker at her work place to put her keys in.

What will yours be, who will it be for, and what will it do? Write down the ideas from your five minute team meeting on your tool kit.

three important things about Friday

1/27/2017

I will turn in my yellow sheet into the basket on the table in the front of the room - today - not say I forgot it and bring it in on Monday.

I understand this represents daily work done at the beginning of each period and it can not be 'made-up' unless I was absent due to illness   --Nor can it all be done at once on Friday..  :/

- I will make sure what I'm working on is either not going to dry or and make sure it's in a bag since I won't see it for 2 days.
-or-
I am trying to get it to dry on purpose and will either put it on the bisque cart or leave it out of a bag in my locker to dry slowly.

Using the Scales and Rubrics - what attributes should my project have?

1/26/2017

get or share a device and find the page with rubrics and scales...

for the pinch pot what skills are necessary and how will they be shown in the finished project?

for the wheel projects - what are the skills you need to improve on and how will they be shown in the finished project?

LIST the skills/Standards on your yellow tool kit.

there should be five. :)

Keeping track of your work

1/25/2017

By today you should be entering - or have entered - the first box in your progress scale. Make sure you have done so.
On your tool kit notes TODAY write down what that project is and that you've started to keep track of it.

If you are a beginner you should start a pink sheet for your pinch pot project.
Make sure you pick one up and start it.

if you know what you are going to make - then make a little sketch in the upper right hand corner.

IF you have a website you should have a photo of the project you have thrown on your working blog.
please write on your tool kit what that project is and the date you put it on your site. Also note at the bottom of the tool kit that you blogged. Find the box for that. Every time you blog please make a note of it. Also check off on your assignment list on the back of your progress scale that you have done so.

the excitement begins! working with clay starts NOW

1/24/2017

for everyone's notes - what are the 8 most common elements on the planet and what do they have to do with ceramics?

follow this link to find out...

new students please continue with the information and write what you need on your tool kit.
you must have the states of clay and know what wet clay, leather soft, hard and green-ware is. you must know what bisque and glaze firing are.

new students will practice pinch pots and others will start on the wheel. Make sure to use your project sheets to keep track of your work.

the fist thing we will do is make a small test pinch pot as a group - this one you will donate to me and will not be graded.
Next you will make your pinch pot project - look here
how to make a pinch pot - video

written instructions here

Intermediate - step one make your website -instructions here
Must be up before
you throw - you will start your first bowl. Make sure you are meeting the requirement of a bowl! - if you need review - watch the video on an ipad.  link here
Check your sheets to see when your blogs are due - late or missing blogs cannot be made up.

ADV
today - update your website so you have a new set of pages. Must be up before your throw.
Start on your first project. We are looking for a beautiful FORM - see rubric for size requirements.

Day one of the best semester EVER!!

1/23/2017

welcome to ceramics. find your seat. talk to the person next to you. find out their name, and three fun things about them. you will be introducing them to the class. (if you know the person well, then change seats.)

after introductions....

what will we learn?

what happens in class?

what should I write on my daily "tool kit" notes?

There is a formula for making art media + skills + art and design elements + intent = art
Art can express ideas that are
Cerebral and  analytical,
Emotional and felt,

Or
- Instincts like shock and surprise

what will I be doing?
You should get a sheet with all the assignments for the quarter on the front -
a progress scale

On the back is a spread sheet with due dates for the entire semester. This is pretty much exactly what my the grade-book in skyward will look like - please get the right progress tracking sheet for your section now.

Find your locker... new students will need to share a grey locker with someone. Tell me your locker number.

tomorrow we will make teams.

Advanced and Intermediate - You MUST make a website and post your first working blog before you make your first project. You MUST post every week if you are going to work with clay. No working blog no clay. :)

Packets and Presentations

1/19/2017

Please put your packet in the basket

At the end of presentations put your presentation notes in the basket

At the end of class leave me with your stamped daily task sheets

there are still things to be cleaned

if your are going on to intermediate/advanced ceramics make or update your website. see instructions. you will need to have this done BEFORE you work with ANY clay next week. Also, you must update your site no less than weekly or you will not be allowed to work with clay.    :/    :)    :o

Today - new student presentations

1/18/2017

Tomorrow - packet due as you walk in the door!!

Tomorrow - Advanced and Intermediate presentations.

Before we begin, take a sheet and on the front write down the information for your own presentation -- what are your skill(s)
what are your main art element and design element and what is the overall feeling, idea or mood expressed.

you will need a separate sheet of paper to write notes for everyone's presentation and a pencil/pen so be ready. we will start six minutes after the bell on the presentations.
