We have one month of wet clay left

4/29/2016

My main
strength in ceramics is –

Most of my projects are –

- one of my main goals is–

thoughts about glazing...

4/28/2016

when you are putting on many colors - which glaze goes on first - the detail or the background?

The base or background color!!
note, clear will peel off of sizable sections of other glaze and must be put on first.
white glaze will make other colors run.
white looks different over dark, than dark looks over white.
When using dark colors - dark green and or black - adding some white brings out other colors in the glaze. Highly recommended.

Try and use two colors for interest and to get the best coverage.

Can you re-wet 'greenware'? Can you add wet clay to dry clay?
what happens when you try?

Int & Adv - remember to post on your working blog. The idea is to show the projects as they come off the wheel or before they go in the kiln. It is a way of keeping 'notes' on your progress.

How is your progress?

4/26/2016

check your progress scale - what have you gotten done?

List on your weekly sheet the projects you've finished, the ones in process, and the one(s) that you just started.

Unless I've miss-counted there are about 25 days of wet clay - some of these are Fridays or days that will have assemblies.

Intermediate and Advance - you need to have a gallery up by Friday of what you have gotten done already.
Make sure your vocab and Interest page are also populated by then.

planter - what is opening twice

4/25/2016

What is opening twice - how many projects can you make from this technique?

***Note for folks with websites - If you are having issues with the Weebly app - check on a chrome book for drafts. If you have hanging unpublished drafts they will glitch up the app.

YOU CAN DO IT - you can throw on the wheel

4/22/2016

time to be inspired - if you practice - you can do it!

How do you clean up after you throw?

4/20/2016

1 - put clay back in mixer
2- all other clay scraps in bucket by mixer
3 - clean area while you are still sitting with your small bucket - get more water if you need.
4 - small bucket water goes in bucket by back door - it's full of clay - make sure you have no tools in your bucket.
5 clean ring at table in 5 gal. bucket of water with your sponges. Make sure tools are cleaned there as well.
6- clean your area with a sponge including the area under the ring as well as the board between them. also clean your chair.
7- check the floor for tools or scraps of clay.

NOW and only now wash your hands.

making a handle

4/19/2016

Where is the only place there should be a bag of clay in the classroom?

Note there are different kinds of clays - use only those marked cone 4-6 - VASHON WHITE is the regular clay. Do NOT use anything else without permission.

How do I make a  cup with a handle?

4/18/2016

Day one - make the cup - a tall cylinder
Day two - pull the handle, foot the cup, attach the handle.

I know I need bagged clay to pull a handle
I know I need to make the handle before I foot the project
I know  I need to leave the handle out for 10 minutes while I foot and before I attach it.
I know I need to put the project in a bag overnight since I've attached a new piece of clay so the handle doesn't fall off.
