documenting our progress on water colors

I can put a photo of the subject as well as a few pictures of my progress on my working blog. This is the work blog assignment for this project.

My favorite finished watercolor of leaves will be on my grading blog before the beginning of class on Thursday.

After we look at the tutorial, write down five main things we are looking for in the leaf painting.

Layers of luminous color - painting light to dark with yellow as a base

image is mostly leaves - no more than 20% background - but background is painted in a light natural color and not left blank.

illusion of 3d - overlap, perspective, chiaroscuro

using complimentary colors not black and white pigments

neatness counts - paint general to specific - start with washes and running colors, latter add detail.

today - what is paint made of?

basically, a binder or vehicle that carries the pigment or colorant. Water color is mostly glue and pigment.

When posting your hallway drawing you need to say how it lines up with the other drawings in your group.

on your yellow sheet, write how they line up.

Mid term packets should be turned in today or tomorrow.

If it's there in the basket when I come in on Monday and done correctly you will get bonus points.
Otherwise I will take them on Monday when i get back. I am sorry but I need to be out today and tomorrow. :(

Today and Friday students will be finishing their Hall drawings. Monday is the last day to work on them and get them posted.
Make sure they line up in a way to make a larger image.
Make sure you have an individual and group sketch on your working blog - that is this weeks' work blog assignment.

Essential parts of this assignment -

1. the drawings need to line up --match the floor lines. see me if you have questions.

2. drawings must have lots of perspective type details -- lights, doors, lockers, windows posters and more. focus on using these to create space.

3. make sure the proportion of the parts are correct - measure!

4. when you use value make the marks follow the direction of the plane. make sure things closer to the viewer are darker. make sure you can see the drawing from a distance.
