what should you do when I'm not here

4/30/2015

There will be times when I'm not here - but
I will try and leave things for you on the site. If the sub does not show them - YOU NEED to check the website on an iPad or your phone.

Please check out yesterday's blog entry and respond to it.

local color and impressionist color landscape.

4/29/2015

Just to review - use the same picture for both landscape paintings.

sunset photos, while lovely, do not work for this assignment - blacks out all the foreground, middle ground and background.

review assignment here

review the definition of local versus impressionistic color here

On your white sheet - write the definition of local color versus impressionistic color.

remember first painting should be done by Friday.

Art in the hall looks great!!!!!!!!!! yet your paintings out there and on grading blog.

we are on short time!

4/27/2015

What do we need to get done by when
Now portraits and macro
by May 1 landscape dull
by May 8  landscape bright
by May 15  choice 1 - repeate an assignent we've done using menu
by May 22 (holiday) *
May 29 * Disney painting
By June 1 * mandala
choice 2 & 3
Graduation is June 12
the week ending in June 12 will have presentations.

looking forward to your next assignment ... Thurs & Friday

4/22/2015

please make sure you are finished with your painting and have it posted on your grading blog with a paragraph  by Friday. Make sure the photo you worked from is on your working blog.

write this  assignment on your white sheet as well as what you have gotten done.

write the assignment below in on Friday's space - abridge as necessary to fit. Use your ipad to read it.

Up next - thinking about limited color - looking at Dutch landscape paintings. Notice - your painting will not look exactly like this - however, it will have  similar color scheme.

Picture

For your next assignment take a landscape photo - make sure it has
 - a foreground,
- middle ground,
- background
- and sky.
In other words it needs to have something somewhere in the image that is close up, something that is a little bit away and something in the distance as well as a sky.

using the same photograph edit it in the photo program of the iPad and choose the change the color setting option - chose sepia.  You need to put this photo on your working blog.

Make a painting of it only using red, green, white or peach and black  paint. (Not a lot of white so to make colors lighter use more water and make them transparent.  Use the large paper and the tempera paints.
Notice - green and red paint make brown so that's okay to add. Need the end you can a little bit of blue and yellow - but it should be very dull in color. It should also have many layers of transparent colors. so Remember as always start with big shapes and light colors and build up to details. Using the drawing program with your photo can be helpful.

Note also second semester students have not done this yet, so all students will be making this painting. second semester students should have a level of detail that is higher than beginning students.

how to make shadows using complimentary colors

4/22/2015

Notice the paintng by Pierre Bonnard - he is using pretty much all primary colors to create an image of very bright light. This is called impressionist color. The idea is to create an illusion of more light.

Picture

notice how this is different than using tints and shades - adding black and white - this is by Pieter Claesz 1628
This technique is called local color

Thinking about macro landscapes

4/20/2015

Although the space in your macro landscape is shallow - there still is space. Somethings are in front of others and somethings behind.
What are the three ways to create the illusion of space in any picture that you draw or paint?

I am out due to family illness - please keep working on your painting. Plan on getting them finished by Thursday.

Art element of scale?

4/20/2015

The macro landscape should be very close up. Why is zooming in on a natural object different than a traditional landscape, and why is it similar.

How does the element of scale change the way we perceive an image?

Look at your image for scale on your vocab page - does this relate to this project? why or why not? if not, is there something amiss with your painting or the example your chose? Does it change your idea of what scale is?

starting on your macro landscape

4/17/2015

Question - why is using black in your painting different than using another pigment?

answer and turn in your white paper right now. :)

moving to macro landscapes

4/16/2015

the macro still life is part still life and part landscape

What does a landscape often have that a still live doesn't?

Finish your portraits

4/15/2015

Make sure your painting is finished and posted on your grading blog by the end of the day - tomorrow we are starting a new project.
