Making a landscape painting - or a macro landscape

Name the parts of a landscape painting -

forground, middleground, background, sky

what is a still life picture? What are the parts of it?

Your next assignment is to do a landscape painting. You can work in tempera or acrylic. You may do a large landscape or a close up 'macro-landscape'
It needs to be from an original photo.
It needs -
a place of focus
at least 3 layers of space - can be shallow for macro but must have layers
must have color on all layers - no blacked out sunset hills

you will need to put the drawing into an ipad sketch program to get the big shapes for the drawing. That along with your source photo need to be on your working blog.

what needs to be on my grading blog to be complete for the quarter - make sure it is complete by Friday. Tomorrow we start something else.

creating a finished portrait - understanding and using the scale/rubric

What will I need in a finished portrait?
- correct proportion
- illusion of skin - painting in transparent layers
- illusion of space and volume - using value, overlap and relative size
- illusion of life - using complementary colors for shadow - not black
- making it look 'real' - neatness counts

think about how I can use these skills to not only create an image but also make the portrait expressive of a mood, feeling and/or idea.

All students will be turning in a packet with all their
--work logs (will be 8 of them - through this week)
--progress scales - you should have two

--a print-out or accounting of your grade in skyward (we are looking to make sure it's accurate with this)

--a self evaluation - there are instructions for this here (please hand write or print out - do not turn in via google docs - I haven't set that up.)
