make a print for a gift or card!

12/19/2014

yay for a holiday.

turn in your paper. :)

improving your print ... next steps

12/18/2014

Make sure your print has at least three kinds of value
light - dots - caused by making cross hatched cuts
medium - texture left by cutting lines to describe the surface
dark- texture similar to cross hatched lines caused by cutting away the small spaces between the cross hatched lines.

also some black and some white.

next - look at the print and see where you can add some clarity -
make sure you have no black lines outlined by the white lines you cut away.

what should be done by now? Putting in grades today

12/17/2014

Checking your grading blog for -
portrait, paragraph
ink drawing paragraph

working blog -
plan for print - using the menu
picture of your proof of the practice block print.

If you have more that is good - can mean extra credit if your grade is "between"

By Friday - have your edition of 10 prints done of your final block.

If you are done before Friday - try some color or ways to enhance the block.

How are prints labled?

12/16/2014

The point of prints is to make multiples ... How do artists number them?
What is an 'artist's proof'?

**An artist makes an edition - a total number of prints and numbers each one in the series as a 'fraction' a number over the total. For instance the second print in an edition of 24 is marked
2/24.
### a proof is a print not in an edition usually taken before the edition is printed.

Finish your practice block today. We need to have the main block done this week.

DO NOT carve on your main block before you talk to your teacher. :)

Question for today -  what are the two main types of printmaking - READ this article - click for link.

Moving to the large print.

12/12/2014

---How many different textures can I make in my small block print? How does texture make value?

---What will I do differently in my large block print than I did in my small one?

+++ by now you need to have
finished your pen and ink drawing, have it on the wall, have it on your grading blog with paragraph.

by Monday you need to have finished your test block print and be starting on your final one.

finish your ink drawing

12/10/2014

What is the difference between outlining and defining an edge in a drawing?

--Today -- please finish your ink drawing and get it ready to put up.
Put a picture of it on your grading blog, do the paragraph and rubric.

NEXT - doing a mini 'block' print. this should take an hour and you will lean a lot about making texture in a block print.

Then - make your print.

what is learning to draw?

12/9/2014

What the video - what are some things we need to do to learn more effectively?

Do your drawing in pen and ink of your image for your print

12/8/2014

Why do the pen and ink drawing before your print?

How to use lines to create value in pen and ink

12/4/2014

Please watch the video - note he calls using parallel lines 'hatching' but other than that has the same techniques.
Please finish a drawing of your image for your print. Please post it under your working blog.
See you Monday - thanks for your patience and good work.
