radiating line drawing

2/25/2014

Picture
This drawing shows how using dark to light and light to dark lines can create a sense of space, movement, and pattern. Which points seem to go out and which seem to sink in? review the art elements and design principles here

To start - divide you large piece of paper into different sections - it's useful to use a colored pencil for this. Make sure you draw one straight line across the horizontal and vertical  axis so they will line up.

Put a dot in each section.

make your lines radiate from the dot to the edge of each polygon.

Make sure the lines at the edges of each polygon line up with the adjacent polygons.

Onward

2/23/2014

First let me say how sorry I am that I will be unable to join you for sometime. Have health issues and can no longer work quite full time. I think of all of you.

We do, however, have a good curriculum laid out and many lessons on line, thus, I think your basic creative natures will persevere and you will have a great semester.

For now, finish the assignment we've started on making a visual glossary of design elements click here for assignment link

Make sure to make your favorite one permanent. You will be writing a summation paragraph on this one and grading it with the rubric. It should go on your grading blog.

The others should form a gallery on your vocab page. Use the gallery tool on weebly. Under each picture you can put the caption of what it represents.
Remember you can use the computer in the office if things glitch up. iPads are picky, however, given some patience you can get good results.

see this link for the plans for the rest of the semester

Please finish - and new assignment

2/12/2014

To review - you should have by now

a blog, I should have your URL

Website should have - link to original post
working blog for updates
grading blog for finished projects and summation paragraphs
a regular page with vocabulary - we will fill that in today

On your working blog there should be photos of three notan designns with descriptions of attributes.

The pictograph you did describing SB sunday - with a description of what you are trying to express as well as the art elements you used.

On your finished blog should be - your favorite Notan with a summation paragraph.

NEW  assigment

Time to put in some grades for your good work

2/11/2014

Your work looks great - let's get some grades in skyward.

Please see rubric for Notan designs.

Please fill out a grading sheet - I will show you how

create a picture worth more than words - make a picture with pencil on white paper that expresses a specific  idea, mood and/or feeling about your experiences on Sunday.

2/6/2014

(This was orgianally posted on Tuesday, when I was absent, however not shown to you. we will use it now.)

Today & Friday , using paper and pencil create an image that conveys an idea - you can think of it as a kind of pictograph if you like...

Using figurative images, symbols words, shapes, lines and pattern along with any other design an art elements (this is a link so look at it please) create a whole page composition on 12x 18" white paper (on table) that describes your experience on Sunday.

it should express any ideas thoughts and/or mood that you had on that day, whether it had to do with the Superbowl or not.

The question is can you create an image that uses art elements like pattern movement, emphasis, see list - make sure you click here!, that can specifically describe your feelings and/or thoughts about a specific thing.

This artwork should be narrative - it should use specific symbols, it should use figurative elements (don't worry about how well you draw - do you best), but it cannot use words.

You should, however, write on the back, in a sentence, exactly what you were trying to express. The test will be to see if other people can, in fact, interpret your picture and understand what you're trying to say. Can you communicate clearly with an image?

You can communicate with people at your table, but not other tables - that way we can actually see if people can guess what you're trying to express but you can also try out your ideas with people on your table.

You have only one period to work on this, and you should use the entire period.
You may start on a piece of newsprint for a rough draft, however you must finish in the period.

Artwork will be judged on

- completeness and careful execution, i.e. it is not just scribbled out - student actually took the entire class time period to do focused work on it.

-contains a variety of images and art elements and principles clearly

-clearly communicates a specific message

iPad warning!!!!

2/6/2014

NEVER GO INTO THE SETTING MODE OF YOUR IPAD!
DO NOT CHANGE THE PICTURE
IF IT ASKS YOU TO UPDATE SOMETHING DON'T.

IGNORE ANY I CLOUD OR STORAGE MESSAGES - JUST CLICK OUT OF THOSE KIND OF THINGS.

DO NOT DO ANY PERSONAL BROWSING - SCHOOL ONLY USE.

What should be on your blog

2/5/2014

Three photo of notan designs with a few lines underneath describing
the qualities -  (formative) being formed, how is it going? What are you learning?
note - your working pictures should be on your working blog with formative writing describing what you are in the process of learning.

First post on grading blog -
a picture of your favorite Notan and a summation paragraph -summative -means to sum things up and finish - what did you learn in total?

Make sure you are taking the pictures first - and editing them in the camera app - before you post them. You can edit them in weebly, but it is easier to do so first. You can use my computer if you like - just ask!

Writing a summation paragraph

2/2/2014

Take ten minutes to make sure your best Notan cut-out is complete.
Next we will be writing a paragraph on it. You can find the directions under the file cabinet, but I'll put it here.

Please finish the paragraph about your design and keep it so you can enter it on your weebly blog.
How to write an art paragraph -
1
Name the object by title of the assignment – i.e. drawing with squares or line design
& Describe
what does the image look like? (what is subject matter or motif)
What is the media? (pencil, watercolor...)

2
name at least one new skill that was
used in order to make the project (do not narrative everything you did to make it – just the new skill you learned for
this assignment.)

 3
name the main art elements  - talk about the composition as well as art elements in individual parts of the composition

4
for your CM show how the skills and art element express an idea, feeling or mood.

*WARNING* DO NOT USE SIMILIES – i.e. – it’s blue so it reminds me of the ocean.  Or it looks like a stary night.  Describe the details of the image and let the viewer draw their own conclusions.

your paragraph shuold be

CD’s
     – what – describe the
     project

      – how –
     skills and art elements

Cm
why is it important? – What possible meaning does it express? What does it say about you?

Friday - I am out... :(

1/30/2014

Keep working on your Notans - if you have done three by now - make one that is a lot more intricate and different than the other three. See if you can move as much of the black square out into the white space.

Notan development...

1/30/2014

Make sure you post each of the three Notan designs on your working blog and why they are different. Yes, we have some time to work on this.

Thanks for working through the glitches with weebly and iPads!

hint - why not use google images on your iPad to look at other Notan designs? :)

I will be checking today to see if I can find all your sites!
