Thursday - start new picture - see yesterday's post

10/31/2013

- make sure I have your self-eval by Thursday
- make sure you have your weebly site with your haystack picture on it and I have your URL - if I do, then take your picture home. I will be grading it off of your site - so also make sure I have your URL

Next project due Monday - at the latest - the picture of Parliament from yesterday's blog post. - look at it from an Ipad!

On Monday, you should have your two landscape pictures of different light situations on your weebly site so we can use them to draw from. This project should be done by Monday Nov 11.

please turn in self-eval and put haystacks on weebly

10/30/2013

when you have turned in your skyward and eval - lets start on this new image. Please bring in your own photos in for later.

Impressionism!

10/28/2013

During this period - make sure I have seen your apple painting so I can give you credit. Then please take it home.
Although - a few can be left here for the upcoming spring Festival of the Arts.

Next, let's talk about your evaluation which is due Wednesday. look under file cabinet for 'Quarterly summative worksheet"

Next, let's talk about Monet! slide show to follow.

taking a page from Mr. Meserve... The next assignment is to copy the Monet landscape using colored chalk on colored paper. The paper is square.
First draw the biggest rectangle that represents the shape of the painting on your paper that you can - lightly in pencil - next using the lightest colors draw the form and general composition. Then using only bright colors - not black! slowly build up the forms to show the image.

We will be doing two of these and then two of your own landscapes - so get pics either on your phone, a printed photo or a picture from a magazine.

Please finish your apple painting and make a color wheel for extra credit.

check out local and impresionistic color

time to reflect for a minute - then finish paintings -

10/24/2013

Don't get out your work right away - first -Entry task -Do mid - quarter summative work sheet with team - 14 minutes. You will need notebook paper and pen/pencil - you will be turning this in.

Next - finish apple painting and get it checked off.  Work on your color wheel - finish it or do another more complicated one now you know how to do it.

Painting apples! Vocab - transparent & Opaque

10/22/2013

Picture

On small white paper do a painting of these apples with tempera paint. Make sure your paint is opaque enough not to curl the paper.

Note - Do NOT squish your brush - don't use it like a pencil or pen - pushing harder WILL NOT make more paint come out - it will just ruin the brush! When using a brush, first load it with paint from the paint source, next lay the paint on the paper with light pressure - as the paint flows out of the brush stop - GET MORE paint.

Cleaning your brush - one, rinse the brush under the faucet, next - put some soap in your hand and gently shampoo the brush - remember it's like your hair - next rinse and re shape the brush.
always lay it flat or put it in a container head up so as not to squish the bristles.

color! Color wheel relationships

10/21/2013

Picture
complementary colors are opposite each other on the color wheel.

Picture
can you define Hue, tint, tone and shade? How does this relate to value?

Assignment- using the tempera paint create a color wheel with the center being the darkest shade and the edge the lightest tint. In your paint tray use the red, yellow and blue - you may use the green & violet since the pigments don't create a good one, but don't unwrap the brown.

New words for color - hue, tint, shade
words for paint - pigment, vechical

Thurs - Mon -shoes! - This drawing - the last for awhile - is due Monday at the latest. Pay attention to learning goals which will be your rubric!

10/17/2013

Assignment - using pencil and white paper I can draw a picture of my shoe resting on a piece of practice paper.
I can use a wide variety of line styles, but not smudging, including contour lines, cross hatching, stippling and textured lines with an entire range of values.

I can fill up the entire page so there is more figure/motif than negative/background space.

I can create the illusion of three dimensions by using relative size, overlap and value changes. Things in front will will be larger, darker.

I can indicate the plane the shoe is resting on by drawing a shadow where the lines describe the plane of the table.

I can draw with my hand lifted and un-anchored from the table and using my entire arm to help create lines that seem to curve by changing value as they curve.

I can finish my drawing on time.

I can use the value scale to draw a three-dimensional surface

10/16/2013

One - finish the value scale - make sure you have used cross hatching - this is important.

two - when you have that and have numbered the values 10 - 0 (10 for black 0 for white) think about how you would use cross hatching and directional lines to create a surface that shows light and shadow.

New assignment - draw three dimensional bubbles - like the blobs you see in a lava lamp - or an apple - using a directional lines for shading - not smudging. You must use the entire value scale   and imagine a consistent light source. Remember what is closest to you is also the lightest! This is a one day assignment.
Picture
Notice where the highlight is and where the shadow is. The shadow will be a 10, and the highlight a 0 on the value scale.
