Finish your soft slab

12/20/2013

Finish your cup and put it on the third shelf.
take a picture and blog it. Good idea to write what you were thinking about when you made it.
PLEASE POWER OFF YOUR iPAD FOR THE BREAK - when you are done blogging. Think it will help them from lagging.

The last weeks of the quarter

12/13/2013

- make sure you blog today about your progress in clay. Please include any new information you've learned about this mid-fire range clay and some of the ideas you have been working with in the creation of your pinch pot.

The Plan -

Today - we will be finishing the pinch pot in wet clay, blogging and leaving it out of the bag to dry. Make sure you have a hole in the base - rubric is up. MAKE SURE YOUR NAME AND PD # ARE ON THE BASE

last week before break we will be doing a soft slab, firing the pinch pots, glazing the pinch pots and blogging about our progress.

The week after break we will make a firm slab project, fire and glaze it.

We will finish the semester with iPad drawings and various other final assignments.

What is going to be graded - asap - clay tomorrow

Summative paragraph - Rubric

drawings – skulls, measured face,
Diagrammatic face – formative paragraph

Extra progress blogs! Good thing –

this can get you extra credit – or at least

Make sure you give me a picture from this unit to put up. Please take your other work home. We should clear out the cupboards today.

NOT HAPPY

12/6/2013

Came in this morning and found about twenty of or new brushes not washed and in container upside down -
RUINED!
these are new brushes - bought just for us - now severely damaged.

Okay, let's finish the painting and blogging today - check the status of your and your table mate's blog - i.e. the skull, measured and generic face with formative paragraph - and make sure it is there.

Finish your blogs at home over the week-end. for the painting. Last day to use Ipads for this will be on Monday.

I am out - I can make a painted  copy of a master portrait painting in one period!

12/4/2013

For today - please make a painted copy of this portrait painting by John Singer Sargent . see how many of the flesh tones you make - but DON'T USE BLACK. Look for the placement of the features and see if you can make the shadows convincing.

Finish portrait painting by Thursday

12/4/2013

Make sure you have completed your blogging for all past projects. Let me know if you have an update.

I can re-create my pencil portrait in color with paint!

click here for some portrait examples from art history

Notice - nothing is actually outlined.
Artists all use complimentary colors for skin tones.
Eyes do not have 'black dot' for pupil - but do all have highlights in them.
Line of the nose is shown on only one side.
mouths have soft edges
highlights one end of nose, cheek bones, tip of chin, forehead, and lower lip.
hair is painted in 'strands' of dark, medium and light.
What else can you notice?

*After you have finished pencil drawing - take a new piece of stiff 9"x 12" paper, make a small (half inch) boarder and re-sketch your face. follow the steps shown in the tutorial to make your painting!

rubric is posted!

We will be finished by Thursday, and then go to clay!
