Instructions: First you need to reorganize your website so all of the past semesters are under different menus and your AP work has a new set of pages.
REMEMBER – and think about this – art is something that changes how we perceive the world – it changes our point of view and surprises us. Sculpture changes the way we perceive space.
Assignment one – go to a museum, art gallery, street fair with ceramics and take pictures of the work or get brochures or post cards from the museum. On your website in the new them blog describe each piece and how it changes space for you. Describe the skills they used and the art elements they used to communicate what ideas with his/her work.
Assignment two – search the web for sculpture ideas and put them on a new interest page. Try searching ‘student sculpture’ or ‘abstract sculpture’ or “ceramic art”.
Assignment three – create and put photos and descriptions of no less than five 3-d projects you make on your new grading blog.
Each piece needs to be some kind of sculpture – You may choose the type of materials to work with – paper, cardboard, wire, air dry clay, wood, straws, old books, shoes, toys or any found objects – search yard sales and thrift shops - anything you can make three- dimensional projects with. For each assignment search the internet for picture of the assignment for inspiration and direction. Keep in mind the idea of working from all different angles as well as the idea of transformation. Ask yourself questions about the space your object occupies. How is it changes the space and how does it ‘feel’ or change the way we perceive the space?
- Do 3-d collage of found objects that express a specific mood/emotion – e.g. rage, loneliness, joy, etc. Manipulate light and color to enhance the psychological atmosphere. Consider the development of the environment. Search ‘found object sculpture’
- Do some exploration with mixed media. Do a piece in which you use at least three different media – i.e. wire, paper, cardboard, air dry clay or sculpty. Search mixed media sculpture
- Get a cardboard box and cut out parts of it. Take the pieces you cut out and rearrange them on the surface so it takes on a significantly different form. i.e transform a rectangular solid into something with curves.
- create two identical forms and make them look different with color. You can do this with found objects
-Create a sculpture where one object transforms into an animal
-Do a sculpture that’s transparent, but not made out of transparent media – think lots of negative space.
- Look at the work of Joseph Cornell and do a box of objects that expresses an idea about you.
- Do a sculpture that looks very different form four different viewing angles
-Do a series of small sculptures that shows progressive transformation of an object. Plan your composition in order for the separate units to work together visually. It should be a sequence of objects
- Do a sculpture, partially destroy it (be creative!), then try to bring it back whereby you create something entirely new/different than what you started with. Explore with different media.
Remember on your IMPROVED website when you come back in the fall should be-
- No less than Five projects in the grading blog
- At least one museum, gallery or artist visit in the working blog
- An interest blog full of new images that inspire you - Please include work by well-known artists that you cite
