A message for parents ---
I apologize that I am not able to be here tonight for open house – but let me introduce you to some of the things we do in class.
There Is a LOT to take in during the first weeks of class – but so far most kids are doing great.

there is the link to my “pre-test”
As a teacher we are asked to try and measure what changes in the course of the semester and I want to gets students thinking about Art as a big topic as well as how they relate to both art personally as well as how powerful it is in culture and society.
I figure the main idea I want to get here is what are kids’ preconceived ideas about art and how they fit into to change over the course of the semester. Thus they will answer again at the quarter and end of semester and I can pick out groups with in the class to follow up on a set of students.
I also give them my definition of art, which I believe to be very powerful – please see the link for the slide presentation.

it's the same slide show for drawing and painting as well as ceramics.
Below find the work logs, project sheets, rubrics and scales (they are not 100% there as of yet however there are generic ones) as well as links to the assignments and progress scales. I want to make sure students are always aware of what they are being asked to do and what they are being graded on. Also as we move to standards based grading I want them to be aware that meeting standards is good, but exceeding standard is excellent work. Our goal for excellent work is for a student to master the skills and make something that is expressive.
