Deadline for entry Thursday March 24 - you must bring in at least one project - if you are advanced/intermediate then three projects.
if you are making a bowl what is different than making a cylinder - and what is the same?
who is on your franken-pot team? |
Newbes | continuing |
remember - one of the projects due each quarter is a choice - that means you can make a pinch, coil, slab or wheel project. It still need to meet the standards on the rubric(s). If you make more choice projects they will be extra credit IF you have finished your assigned projects.
What will yours be for this quarter? Remember also this quarter ends at the end of this month! How many class periods is that?
this room is a work room for over 125 people.
How do your clean up? What is your team's job - who is on your team? they will also be your Franken pot team. :)
- 12 mins. before the bell - put away your stuff and make notes of what you did. Then clean your own area including the surrounding tables. DO NOT put clay dust on the floor.
- 10 mins before the bell - join your team and do your job.
The idea is to make the room free from clay dust which is not healthy for anyone to breath. You need to be working for the entire time.
Period two - time to sludge red clay - any red clay users - not the regular sludging team. including folks from AP
Ceramics is the original STEM course - who should take it - everyone who want to use their hands, eyes, body and mind to navigate and create in the real - 3D - world. Get off the screen and into reality!
It can be credited as Fine Arts and also CTE.
You make take beginning, intermediate &advanced. You may take advanced more than once.
In your senior year you may take AP ceramics (3D art) or more advanced ceramics.
for students who need to meet requirements of core 24 you will need 4 semesters of fine art.
Studying ceramics is important for many reasons. You will lean
- how to make ART!
- to plan and complete long terms projects
- to problem solve
- using art and design elements to communicate idea
- designing in 3 Dimensions
-team work
- how to use verbal language to describe visual projects
- website building
- and much more
Again, Ceramics is the perfect union of skill, imagination, creativity, and effort to create actual and useful objects!!!
what is different about centering and pulling the wall?
Wheel speed?
hand position?
What is the same?
- wheel goes fast when you center, medium when you pull
- hands are pushing into the clay when you center, hands are perpendicular to the clay when you pull and you only touch it at one point on the circle with your finger tips.
- hands are always joined, elbows are always braced on your body, back straight and face over the center.
period two - time to sludge with Rebecca, Makenna, Holland & guest helper - Mark :)
What are the steps of throwing? Make sure you are following them!!! remember all projects start as a cylinder. | Intermediate & Advanced - |
work logs are due on Friday. No more late papers. If you are absent they must be turned in no more than one day after you return.
** work logs represent on time work ** need to be done at the beginning of each class and at the end. BE specific about what you got done. not just '---- project' but what did you accomplish that day.
